HTC fielded a ton of questions during its Reddit AMA session. Here’s some of the best bits

HTC took part in a recent Reddit AMA session which revealed quite a bit about the company’s 2014 plans, as well as some insider insight on things like Windows Phone, Google Play Edition handsets and faster Android updates.

The company confirmed it is working with Microsoft to bring Windows Phone 8.1 to its current HTC 8X handset. HTC didn’t say anything about future Windows Phone handsets but neither did it rule out the possibility entirely, we’re “working with Microsoft on the Blue update on Windows Phone 8X and will continue to take new products into consideration”.

HTC has taken a lot of flack for its Android updating skills. The company recently confirmed it would not be updating the HTC One X to Android KitKat, meaning without rooting the device it will be forever stuck on Jelly Bean. But HTC says it is going to get a lot better at Android updates.

“To address an issue that’s top of mind for many folks here, we recently announced that we wouldn’t be updating the HTC One X and One X+ beyond Android 4.2. Without the support of our chip manufacturer Nvidia, it made a global update of One X and X+ devices impossible. However, in US the One X uses the Qualcomm chip and an upgrade would be possible, but we didn’t think it would be a good experience for our customer base to update the X, but not the X+. This update caused a huge stir amongst owners and we’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4.”

All major flagship handsets will get updated to the latest Android firmware, said HTC. Not only that but all flagship handsets from here on out will be supported for at least two years, meaning the upcoming HTC One+ (or, M8) will still be eligible for Android updates in 2016.

HTC also confirmed the One Mini and HTC One Max would be getting updated to Android 4.4 KitKat in March and April, respectively. You can check out the full AMA session here.

Previous Reddit AMA guests include Barack Obama, Bill Gates, and Stephen King to name but a few.
